Universal Decap Die
This die’s primary function is to decap (remove the primer) from a fired case. This die will decap any case avaliable for the Apex 10. Spent primers are ejected at this station down through a spent primer tube.
Universal Hold Down Die
The Apex 10 comes with a universal hold down die. This die holds the case firmly against the shellplate for on press swaging. Swaging pushes a swaging rod into the empty primer pocket, not only helping to remove military crimps, but also ensures more reliable priming. Proper swaging of your brass puts a slight chamfer on the inside edge of the primer pocket, which goes a long way towards reliably priming your cases.
Size Die
At the 4th station you put your sizing die with the decapping rod removed. Sizing over the priming station provides two functions. First, we are re-sizing the case, bringing once fired brass back to its proper dimensions so it can be ready for use. Second, by using a sizing die over the priming station, the case is held firmly in place allowing for ultra reliable priming. Lyman Pro Dies feature carbide inserts that ensure correct sizing and long term use. Remember, even with carbide dies, you still want to lube your cases.
